One two-month journey through the Australian Coast was terminated days after the fatal incident of an elderly woman who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the tropical location with shipmates from the vessel, but parted ways from the party for a pause. The liner sailed away leaving her and came back later that day after the ship staff became aware the lady was not present.

A major hunt found her person the following day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the tragedy, together with police and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the shipping company announced that passengers and staff on the ship were told that the rest of the voyage had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and previous mechanical issues".

In a statement, he further stated that travelers would be given a full refund, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the travelers via chartered flights".

Authorities also issued an revised statement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Captain" prohibiting any new passengers from boarding the vessel.

The official said that they would inspect the liner in Cairns upon its return.

Sequence of Incidents

The ship first departed Cairns on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the voyage at the time of the 80-year-old's death. The tropical location was the initial destination on the journey.

Passengers on the ship - who typically pay tens of thousands of dollars to participate in the cruise - were transported there for a shore visit with the option of trekking or underwater exploration.

Next of Kin Response

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her family was "stunned and distressed that the ship left Lizard Island after an organised excursion without my parent".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her parent as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a participant of a walking club.

"From the little facts we have been provided, it appears that there was a failure of care and ordinary reasoning," she stated.

She further stated that she hoped the examination would be able to determine what "the operator should have undertaken that might have preserved Her being".

"We understand from the police that it was a exceptionally warm afternoon, and mum became unwell on the uphill trek," she revealed.

"They requested her to go back, unescorted. Then the ship departed, reportedly without performing a headcount.

"At some stage in that process, or soon after, mum passed away, alone."

Organization Reaction

Through an announcement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the company was "collaborating extensively with investigators to support their examination".

He mentioned that the company was "extremely apologetic that this has transpired" and had provided its complete assistance to the family.

Cruise Industry Standards

The vessel accommodates up to a hundred twenty guests with nearly fifty personnel, according to corporate details. It was purpose-built to enter distant areas of the Australian coastline and is fitted with "small boats" - minor craft used to ferry passengers on day excursions.

Incidents of this nature are rare, and cruise ships have procedures to document which travelers are boarding or disembarking, according to industry experts.

"Leaving covertly or [back] aboard just isn't an option," one expert commented.

Shipping companies consider these procedures very seriously and have "advanced technology in place to stop such incidents from occurring," the expert added.

"This seems to be presumably a stunning - and sad - isolated incident."
