Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the public for information.
A senior representative commented the incident made him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
